What we learned from the pandemic red carpet

On Sunday night, the 93rd Academy Awards took place in real life, wrapping up what has been literally the longest awards season of our lives. With the return of the red carpet in person and jaw-dropping fashion from Armani, Chanel, Christian Dior, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Vera Wang and Valentino to go with it, it felt like a real throwback to some sort. of glamorous normality.

While no one is eager to return to a virtual red carpet, there are some fashion trends that have emerged this season that we’d like to hold onto, from bright colors to a pint-sized fashion plate. Ahead, a look back at what we learned from the pandemic red carpet – and what it might tell us about post-pandemic fashion to come.

Men have really stepped up their fashion game

The days when men wore exclusively a classic tuxedo or a basic suit are long gone, both in black. There is a time and place for tradition, but it was a refreshing twist to see men pushing the boundaries this season. Leslie Odom, Jr. made the virtual red carpet his runway show as he created Valentino Haute Couture looks at the Golden Globes, a Celine look with a ruffled collar and several silver chains for the Critics Choice Awards, and not one but two Versace looks for BAFTAS – all before wearing a real gold Brioni costume to the Oscars. And he wasn’t the only one who tested the waters. We loved seeing Josh o’connor at Loewe at the Golden Globes, Dan Levy in The Row at SAGs, Ahmed Rice in Céline at the Golden Globes and Coleman domingo at Atelier Versace at the Oscars which really set the bar high. Men finally seem ready to take some big fashion risks, and we hope that will continue after the pandemic.

Celebrities always like to dress up

Given the opportunity to finally swap sweatshirts for glamor, the celebrities seemed as eager to get back to normal as the rest of us. At the Oscars, we saw the greatest of glamor of Regina king, Andra’s Day, Zendaya, Amanda Seyfried, Emma Corrin, at Maria bakalova, Just to name a few. There is no pandemic large enough to prevent us from continuing to look our best, even though we are only at home.
