The Daily Californian Arts & Entertainment chooses the best dressed at the 2021 Oscars
This year’s Oscars were anything but conventional. Much like many other major events that took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Oscars took on a different form than usual – the producers hosted the show at the Los Angeles Union Station instead of the usual Dolby Theater, and they have reorganized the typical order of awards. While the logistics of the show might have been a bit odd, that didn’t stop a great red carpet. From LaKeith Stanfield’s daring take on men’s formal wear to the timeless elegance of Angela Bassett, this year’s ceremony stars have outdone themselves on the red carpet. Here are the Daily Californian’s picks for the five best dressed celebrities at the 93rd Academy Awards.
Carey Mulligan in Valentino Haute Couture
Carey Mulligan delivered one of the most memorable performances of the year on “Promising Young Woman,” and while she didn’t end up winning the Best Actress award, she certainly left a lasting impression on the Red carpet. The British actress wore an eye-catching Valentino haute couture gown that consisted of a glittering gold ballroom skirt and a matching headband. Mulligan completed the glamorous look with a simple updo and paired jewelry, minimizing the distractions of her striking dress.
Angela Bassett at Alberta Ferretti
Angela Bassett has been a red carpet regular for decades and has established a reputation for her elegant and timeless sense of style. This year’s Oscars are no exception: The legendary actress turned heads in a glamorous red Alberta Ferretti gown. Her dress featured off-the-shoulder sleeves and an elegant cape. Bassett completed the dress with an original lip-shaped clutch and striking jewelry.
LaKeith Stanfield in Saint Laurent
LaKeith Stanfield’s Saint Laurent jumpsuit was one of the most talked about outfits of the night, and for good reason. The actor, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in “Judas and the Dark Messiah,” balanced formal and casual with his cool and sophisticated outfit. The tight-fitting jumpsuit featured wide pant legs and a wide collar, giving it just the right amount of edge. Stanfield’s accents and accessories tied the look together – between his chunky chain, tinted sunglasses, nail polish and bleached hair, the actor put a classy twist on the traditional Oscar dress code.
Olivia Colman in Dior Haute Couture
Although Olivia Colman couldn’t make it to Los Angeles for the Oscars and instead attended a screening of the ceremony in London, the actress still managed to have one of the best looks on the carpet. red. Colman’s red dress ââ which was specially designed for her and took over 300 hours to construct ââ featured a high neckline, a bare ankle hem, and long puffed sleeves. She complimented the dress with matching red heels and dangling diamond earrings, for a sophisticated and graceful look.
Zendaya to Valentino
Zendaya is known for her bold, youthful sense of style, and this year’s Oscar-inspired actress’s Cher-inspired outfit is a perfect example. Zendaya wore a bright yellow dress with a belly cutout and a flowing train, with $ 6 million worth of jewelry that included a necklace of matching yellow diamonds. She combined the exuberant look with a long, natural hairstyle and simple makeup, making her outfit one of the most memorable of the night.
