Chanel’s Spring / Summer 2021 collection receives royal treatment

Chanel appealed to fashion royalty for its Spring / Summer 2021 campaign, naming Grace Kelly’s granddaughter Charlotte Casiraghi as its new ambassador. No wonder Casiraghi, eleventh to the Monegasque throne, was named the brand’s latest champion as a close friend of the house and a style icon in its own right.
Frequently seen at exclusive events such as the Cannes Film Festival and the Met Gala, Casiraghi has made a name for himself as one of the best dressed royals today. The trend continues in Chanel’s new campaign for their Spring / Summer 2021 Ready-to-Wear collection, which was photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin in Monaco.

Inspired by Charlotte’s life in Monaco, van Lamsweerde and Matadin shine a light on Casiraghi’s glamorous days and nights, naturally decked out from head to toe in Chanel’s latest offerings. âCharlotte has a mysterious quality, a push-pull duality that emphasizes our game of merging reality and dream,â the photographers explain.
The ensuing short for Chanel draws inspiration from this, evoking mystical and utterly cinematic visions of Monaco with Casiraghi at the center. From saturated daylight visions of empty swimming pools to moody monochrome nights, Casiraghi traverses the stages draped in monogrammed chiffon, tweed and sequins.
Campaign highlights include Casiraghi lounging poolside in a charming red striped dress, as well as a photo of the royal wearing a red cashmere logo sweater with the sprawling lights of Monaco behind her.
