Excellent range of handsets and SIM-only plans
As you might expect, the handsets from Apple, Samsung and Sony are present and decent – no surprise because no vendor would be foolish enough not to stock the market leaders. We are also happy to see that Vodafone offers phones from Huawei. Huawei offers high-end handsets at a lower cost – call it budget-premium – so it’s a great option for the discerning buyer.
Vodafone also offers handsets from Motorola, Blackberry and own brand phones in the form of the Vodafone Smart V8 and Smart N8. Notable absences include LG, OnePlus, and HTC, although it’s fair to say that these brands don’t offer anything substantially different from what Vodafone does. It has these bases covered.
Vodafone also offers a wide selection of SIM-only offers if you already have a suitable handset for you. It basically breaks things down into three levels: Essentials (small data, minutes, and texts), Red Extra (moderate data with the option of extra passes – more info on those below), and Red Entertainment (big data with the data pass option and your choice of entertainment add-on).
Vodafone has its own network covering 98% of the UK population
Vodafone is one of four providers in the UK with its own physical network – the others being EE, Three and O2. All other providers are grafted onto one of these networks. While this is not the “best” measurable network – if by “best” we mean the fastest data, the widest coverage – there really isn’t much between these networks.
Vodafone covers 98% of the UK population. If you are unsure if you are covered, you can use Vodafone’s coverage checker on their own website. Keep in mind, however, that geographic coverage maps are not very good at predicting the signal indoors, so if you have a friend or family member on Vodafone it may be worth your while. take a tour to see what the signal looks like in different rooms. 98 times out of a hundred, however, everything will be fine.
30 day free cancellation policy
Vodafone offers a 30-day withdrawal period – more than double the 14 days required of them under the Consumer Contracts Regulation. This means you will have plenty of time to make sure your new handset and / or SIM is working as it should, where it should be.
The system works very simply, but if you return a handset you will have to make sure that it remains absolutely spotless before you return it, otherwise Vodafone might quibble.
Vodafone is the UK’s best network for international roaming
Vodafone operates a vast telecommunications empire across the world and it is this, in our opinion, that has enabled it to offer such an overwhelming number of countries with free or low cost roaming. You will benefit from completely free roaming in 48 countries. They are:
Germany, Austria, Azores, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canary Islands, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark (including Faroe Islands), Estonia, Finland, France (including Corsica), French Guiana, Gibraltar, Greece, Guadeloupe, Guernsey , Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Jersey, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Madeira, Martinique, Mayotte, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Reunion, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia , Spain (including the Balearic Islands), Sweden, San Marino, Saint Martin, Switzerland, Turkey and Vatican City.
For an additional £ 6 each day that you actively use your services (data, calls, SMS, although receiving calls and SMS remains free), Vodafone offers 104 additional roaming destinations. These are (brace yourself): Afghanistan, Albania, Andorra, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Armenia, Aruba, Australia, Bangladesh, Barbados, Bahrain, Bermuda, Bonaire, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Cambodia, Canada, Cayman Islands, Chile, China, Colombia, Congo, Democratic Republic of, Costa Rica, Curacao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Fiji, Georgia, Ghana, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kuwait, Laos, Lesotho, Macao, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Montserrat, Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Oman, Pakistan, Panama, Papa New Guinea, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Russia, Saba, Samoa, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Saint-Eustache, Sint Maarten, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vin cent, Suriname, Swazila sd, Tanzania, Taiwan, Thailand, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos, Ukraine, Uruguay, US Virgin Islands, United Arab Emirates, United States of America (United States of America ), Uzbekistan, Vanuatu and Vietnam.
It would be fair to say that if you are going abroad and it is not on Bouvet Island, Vodafone is there for you.
Red Entertainment offers NOW TV, Spotify Premium or Sky Sports Mobile for free
Vodafone basically offers three tiers with its monthly and SIM plans only. “ Essentials ” is your budget option, “ Red Extra ” has more data and allows free data extensions for some services, while “ Red Entertainment ” offers the most data and comes with the option to add NOW TV, Spotify Premium or Sky Sports Mobile at no additional cost.
It is extremely generous. These services all normally weigh around £ 8 per month each. You can only choose one, but all of them are worth it. A NOW TV entertainment pass gives you access to most Sky TV channels except movies and sports, Spotify Premium gives you unlimited music, and Sky Sports Mobile. Granted, you’ll need one of the higher rates to get them, but if you take advantage of any of these services, it will be all the more worth it.
Vodafone Passes offer unlimited data on a service of your choice
Vodafone passes, not to be confused with additional subscriptions to NOW TV, Sky Sports Mobile or Spotify Premium, are available to anyone subscribing to the Red Extra or Red Entertainment level. There are four in total, each allowing you to engage in a specific online activity without eating into your data allowance.
The Vodafone Video Pass allows you to stream just about any popular video app without eating away at your monthly allowance: YouTube, Netflix, Amazon, etc. The Music Pass does the same for Apple Music, Deezer, Spotify and others, the Social Pass includes all popular social media channels and the Vodafone Chat Pass will not count data used in WhatsApp, Facebook and… you get the idea.
It should be noted, however, that these are not free. They all cost between £ 5 and £ 7 extra per month. However, if you stream a lot of video when you’re on the go, for example, it may offer better value than the equivalent monthly data cap required.
24 month extended warranty on all Apple devices
As the title says. The standard Apple warranty on iPhones and iPads is one year. Vodafone offers you two.
“ Boost your plan ” as you need it without upgrading
It’s becoming more and more common these days – the ability to add or subtract from your service limits each month. This is useful if you need a lot more data per month, for example, but not on an ongoing basis. However, it sort of serves the same purpose as Vodafone’s assists – there’s definitely a crossover there.
What you choose will largely depend on your own preferences.
15% off additional plans for you or other family members
If you purchase an additional SIM card or handset once you are already a Vodafone customer, you will get 15% off all aspects of it, from the regular monthly cost to any additional add-ons. BT Mobile and others have similar offers, but these generally tend to only apply to SIM cards. Here you can get additional iPhone Xs if your heart desires… and that’s a huge discount.
