Adele reacts to backlash after delaying Las Vegas residency
In the hours following Adele’s first public performance in five years, the Grammy Award winner delivered a candid interview about her canceled Las Vegas residency.
In January this year, Adele took to social media to share the tearful news that she would be canceling her highly anticipated ‘Weekends with Adele’ residency at Caesars Palace casino, citing that the show was not ready in due to COVID-19 related delays.
Now, in a new interview with the BBC’s ‘Desert Island Discs’, Adele has addressed the backlash and criticism she received following her postponement.
“I really felt everyone’s disappointment and I was devastated and scared to let them down,” the star said.
“I was a shell of a person for a few months. I just had to wait and cry, I guess, just cry the shows and get over the guilt, but it was brutal,” she added.
Adele also explained her decision to postpone the residency in the first place, explaining “I thought I could put it together and make it work and I couldn’t, and I stand by that decision.”
“I’m not just going to do a show because I have to or because people are going to be disappointed or because we’re going to lose a lot of money. I’m like, the show isn’t good enough,” explained the 34-year-old player.
The star had initially postponed residencies, just days before the first concert, which sparked an outpouring of anger and disappointment from fans who spent thousands on tickets and flights.
While Adele has yet to confirm when the residency will take place, the star finally returned to the stage this weekend in her hometown of London.
Appearing at her concert in Hyde Park, Adele donned a haute-couture Schiaparelli creation by Daniel Rosebery. Featuring a plush velvet halter neck and sequined slip, if this dress is anything to go by, then Adele is back, better than ever and ready for action.
Speaking to the audience, Adele revealed her concern as she returned to the stage. “It’s so strange to be in front of a crowd again. I get so nervous before every show, but I love being here,” the star said.
